A Story Rooted in Experience
The Académie was born from a shared journey, a shared passion, and a deep belief in the power of education to transform lives.
Dolly Owusu
A Story Rooted in Experience
Co-founder Dolly Owusu was born in Ghana, West Africa, an English-speaking country. At the age of eight, her life changed when she moved to French-speaking Belgium. This early immersion into a new language and culture shaped her understanding of bilingualism, resilience, and empathy. A defining moment in her journey was the kindness of her elementary school teacher, who dedicated her summer holidays to teaching Dolly French. That act of care and commitment planted the seeds of what would later become The Académie—a school where bilingualism, multiculturalism, and kindness are foundational values.
With 20 years of experience in education, Dolly studied languages and earned a degree in Teaching. Her professional journey includes international internships in Austria, educational experiences in the United States starting at age 18, and teaching in Louisiana, USA since 2024. Her dedication and excellence were recently recognized when she was elected Best Teacher of the Year at Erath Middle School in Louisiana.
Passionate about innovative learning, Dolly has consistently developed creative, project-based approaches, including theater projects, which she strongly believes are powerful pathways to learning a foreign language. Her work reflects a unique blend of passion, expertise, and savoir-faire.
Christophe Pirson
Education as a Family Calling
Co-founder Christophe Pirson grew up in a family of educators, with teaching spanning generations—from his grandmother to his cousins today. Education has always been part of his identity. Beyond the classroom, Christophe has dedicated his time and energy to transmission and mentorship through scouting, as well as coaching basketball and soccer, reinforcing values of teamwork, leadership, and perseverance.
Christophe holds a degree in French teaching and brings 16 years of teaching experience, enriched by professional experiences in Belgium, Senegal, and now in the United States. In June 2024, he earned an additional degree as a chef, a deliberate step toward realizing their vision of a school where health, fresh nutrition, and well-being are fully integrated into education.
A Shared Vision
Dolly and Christophe met while teaching at an English immersion school in Belgium, a meaningful coincidence that underscores their deep understanding of and commitment to immersion education. Today, they are married and proud parents of three daughters, a role that further strengthens their conviction that schools must nurture both academic excellence and human values.
The Académie is the result of their combined journeys—across continents, cultures, and classrooms. It is a school built not only on professional expertise, but on lived experience, passion, and love for education.
Every program, value, and decision reflects their belief that when education is meaningful, caring, and
well-designed, children truly thrive.
